I always imagined my life would consist of helping others, little did I know that would be in the fitness community. I was born and raised on the beautiful Cape Breton Island and currently still on the island with my husband BJ and son Jonathon.

In 2009 my son Jonathon was born. I began spending a significant less amount of time taking care of myself and quickly began gaining weight. By 2012 I was 50 pounds overweight and decided that I needed a change and fast. I knew I would like to join a gym and become more active while starting to learn about nutrition and how to eat. I joined Ascendo Fitness in Sydney which became a second home very quickly for me. It was not easy to take the first step into the gym, but every step after I was at ease. It can be a struggle for so many out there to make the first step, but I promise you, you’ll be glad you did. I went from an unhealthy lifestyle of being inactive and unhealthy eating habits and began strength training, group fitness classes, running, and learning about nutrition which soon turned into a firing force. I knew that I had a passion for fitness and after experiencing my own transformation I knew I wanted to help others throughout their health and fitness journey. In 2013 I became a Can Fit Pro Certified Personal Trainer and later a Health Eating for Weight Loss Coach and left my career in Health Care to start a new beginning. I could never imagine how rewarding this life would be.

The first time I stepped foot onto a treadmill I couldn’t breathe after 30 seconds. I followed a program and worked hard trying to conquer a 5km jog. Months later I did it, I ran my first 5km which was just the start for me. In 2015 I ran my first half marathon (13.1 miles), in 2016 I had raced my first full marathon (26.2 miles), following with a second one in 2018, and a third in 2021. Running is so symbolic for transformation if you tell yourself one foot in front of the other, forward is forward, at any pace you will get there at your pace. Transformation is beautiful, and I am so thrilled to be part of yours.

My love for fitness dates back as far as I can remember. As a kid, you could always find me outside climbing trees or playing “who can jump the highest” in my backyard with my friends. Growing up, I was a competitive gymnast and cheerleader and even though it’s been over 20 years since my gymnastics career ended, I still love to get upside down as often I can. From 2005-2009, I coached at the same high school I attended, RHS! It was during this time I really found my passion for coaching and helping others.

In 2006, I was craving some type of physical activity in my life so I decided to join my local gym and quickly fell in love with lifting and the feeling of getting stronger all the time. Missing the competitive scene, I decided to take part in my first Bodybuilding competition in 2008 where I won the Nova Scotia Women’s Lightweight title. In 2009 I gave birth to my first daughter, Lila and was back on stage 10 months later to win the same title. In 2011, I switched gears, competed and won in the Women’s Figure Short division and then placed second in the same division in 2012.

In 2010, I decided it was time to take my passion for fitness to the next level and become a CanFitPro Personal Training Specialist. It was later that year that I found my second home at Ascendo Fitness here in Sydney and in 2014 I became the Associate PROTRAINER for Cape Breton.

In 2013 after the birth of my second daughter, Quinn, I began to change the way I looked at fitness. Competing can be extremely restrictive and hard on the body as well as the mind. I was tired all the time and my self-confidence was at an all-time low. I was craving balance. I began introducing new foods and discovering new types of exercise. Over time, looking after myself became something I thoroughly enjoyed again and no longer felt like a chore. This is what I strive to achieve with each and every one of my clients, in the gym and online. To help them fall in love with taking care of themselves and their body and for them to find out just how strong they really are! When we believe in ourselves there is no limit to what we can achieve! I’m so excited to be coming on this journey with you!

Most of us spend a lot of time sitting: sitting at your desk, sitting in your car, sitting on the couch or wherever. This has a poor effect on your muscles in your anterior chain – they get shorter and tighter. It also effects the muscles of your posterior chain by weakening them. This can result in poor posture, back pain and knee pain.
